Change is Inevitable

Message from the Minister, Summer 2025

Evolution, growth and expansion are inevitable aspects of life and powerful reminders that there is a higher power guiding everything in Heaven and on Earth. Summer is a time of rapid growth and expansion in the natural world and can be a time of accelerated growth spiritually as well.

When the energies of the Earth are in a time of expansion, as it is during the summer months in New England, we may find that in the stillness more inner movement is happening, in the silence we hear the voice for God more clearly.

Rather than attempting to force change, becoming still can be a method of allowing the Universe to motivate and move us. Many teachers talk about changing the world, however, A Course in Miracles asks us to change our mind about the world. Rather than trying to change outer circumstances, we change our perception and turn our focus inward to the source of our experience.

When we surrender our minds to the Holy Spirit, we begin to perceive with the Spirit, we also begin to serve the Spirit which gives only good all the time. In this manner we are giving ourselves to the greater good, knowing that only good will come back to us, and in greater abundance.

As we surrender more and more to the greater good, a deep sense of peace and healing comes to us and abides within us. We are not only changing ourselves from within, the world around us takes on the reflection of holiness as well. As Eric Butterworth would say, “We haven’t sought to set the world right, but to see it rightly.”

What is really changing is the inner landscape of our mind. The inevitable awakening and illumination of the human mind can be accelerated by our dedication to Truth, by our affirmative prayers, mindful meditations and conscious, spiritual living. It can also be slowed down by our refusal to engage with spiritual principles; but the one thing we cannot do is stop the flow of evolution.

Attempting to stop change is like trying to prevent the sun from rising in the day and setting at night. The constant movement of the universe is of course the one thing we can count on. Even when we close our eyes to spiritual Truth, it is still there, blessing and healing and expanding the light. It is up to each of us to open our eyes to it and embrace the positive change which is available each moment.

When you find yourself fearing the inevitable change taking place within you and in the universe, ask yourself, “Is there anything left of the caterpillar to question the existence of the butterfly?”
