The suffering in our world arises out of a sense of separation—from our own bodies and hearts, each other, and this living web. She will explore this trance of separation and how it’s led humans to destroying our larger body, earth. We’ll then look at the pathways of awakening to the truth of “interbeing” and responding to our precious world with love. Brach is a highly regarded teacher of Western Buddhism. In honor of Earth Care Month, the Unity Book Club’s April selection is “Zen and The Art of Saving the Planet” by Thich Nhat Hahn. “This book has at its core the simplest of Buddhist solutions: We take care of what we love, so loving the earth with all our hearts is what’s required to save the planet, and ourselves.”
We will meet in person at Unity on Monday, April 18th at 7:00 PM. James Kershner will join us to discuss this enlightening and inspiring book.
The book can be ordered through Martha Powers at Books by the Sea, with a 15% discount for Unity members.
Discussion to follow with Kumara Sidhartha, MD, MPH
Milked is a a new film about the dairy industry and how it impacts our health and the planet. Discussion follows with Kumara Sidhartha MD, MPH (Nutrition), with a focus on nutrition and health, with time for questions and answers.
Dr. Sidhartha’s vision is to create an informed, empowered and healthy population through evidence-based nutritional approaches to address illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and arthritis. He currently serves as the Medical Director for the Physician-Hospital Organization of Cape Cod Healthcare. He is a contributing author of the textbook, Promoting Biodiversity in Food Systems (CRC Press, 2019), which tackles a related subject matter as in this film.
Annawon will share native traditions and values for honoring the Earth, including a Round Dance we will do outside as part of the service.
Annawon began sharing the culture of his tribes with his family during public programs at a young age. Annawon's passion for preserving the culture has been clear throughout decades spent working at Plimoth Plantation (Museum Interpreter/Outreach Educator), the Boston Children's Museum as well as visiting schools, colleges, museums, libraries, birthdays and more. On stage or in the classroom, his ability to share his tribal culture has been sought after by many institutions.
We are looking for people who would like to contribute healthy, plant based and delicious food for our special Earth Day celebration. Dairy is ok, but no meat or fish.
If you would like to participate, please let Paula Long know what type of food you might bring (e.g. salad, dessert, fruit, etc.). If you would like suggestions for what to bring, contact Paula or Dolores Pucci.
Faith Leaders representing twelve different religious and spiritual communities from around the Cape will gather at Unity on Cape Cod for a special prayer service for world peace, with our focus on Ukraine and other war torn areas of our planet.
This is our opportunity to show our support for the Ukrainian people and help raise the consciousness of oneness, the sacredness of life and the interdependence of all beings on earth. We know the power of prayer combined with direct action can and will bring about a positive change for all humanity.
