James Kershner, founder of the Cape Sangha, will present a slideshow and talk about his recent pilgrimage “In the Footsteps of the Buddha” 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Unity on Cape Cod, 147 Walton Ave, Hyannis, MA 02601.
The talk will be approximately one hour with time for questions and answers. Those who are interested in experiencing Buddhist practice may stay for the regular meeting of the Cape Sangha from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Kershner will talk about the life of the Buddha while showing photographs taken during his recent two-week visit to northern India and southern Nepal. He was part of a pilgrimage group of 30 Buddhist practitioners, including several monks and nuns. It was led by Dharma Teacher Shantum Seth, a native of Delhi who has been taking groups to see important locations in the life of the Buddha, who lived 2,600 years ago in what is now India.
Kershner, a resident of Barnstable, was ordained by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh as a member of the Order of Interbeing in 2002.
Jesus said of his teachings: “I have said these things to you that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.” (John 15:11) Whatever the circumstances of my life, I can choose joy, the joy that comes from knowing that we have been brought a new understanding of life, a new way of loving one another. Joy does not come from judging outer circumstances. Joy does not come from anywhere outside ourselves. Joy always comes from within our own heart and mind.
We release what no longer serves us from the past and embrace the promise of the New Year.
Rev. Tony Cryer will discuss ” I Release What No Longer Serves My Highest Good.” This is the time of year when many of us make a decision to let go of what no longer serves us and embrace a new direction, or a new approach to life, in hopes of creating a better future. Being in the present moment is the prescription of most spiritual teachers as the way to accomplish this. Join us this Sunday as we let go of the past and let Spirit show us what is available in the here and now.
