Film Merchants of Doubt

Inspired by the book, “Merchants of Doubt” by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M .Conway, this film takes audiences on a satirically comedic yet illuminating ride into the heart of conjuring American spin. It exposes a secretive group of highly charismatic silver-tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studies public threats including climate change.

Discussion follows with Phllip Duffy, President and Executive Director of the renowned Woods Hole Research Center. He is a physicist who has devoted his career to the use of science in addressing climate change. Prior to joining WHRC, Dr. Duffy served in the White House National Science and Technology Council as the Senior Advisor to the US Global Change Research Program, and as a Senior Policy Analyst in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In these roles he was involved in international climate negotiations, domestic and international climate policy, and coordination of US global change research. He has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard and a Ph.D. in applied physics from Stanford.
